Handheld gaming is heating up, and Lenovo has entered the fray with the Legion Go, a desirable alternative to consoles and PCs.
Handheld gaming is on the rise, and Lenovo is the latest company to get their name into the ring with the Legion Go, a portable gaming machine that is set to take on the likes of the Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally.
The Legion Go runs on an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, features 16GBs of RAM, and has 1TB of storage. This means you get a streamlined gaming experience in a neat package that runs any game under the sun at high settings.
However, with anything portable, there are drawbacks. The Legion Go is fairly large for a handheld. It features a glorious 8,8” QHD+ (2560 x 1600 with 144 Hz refresh rate) IPS display. However, its size demands power. As a result, the battery lasts only about two hours. While those two hours deliver excellent gaming, it’s still just two hours.
One of the Legion Go’s unique features is the ability to detach the controllers. Much like Nintendo’s Switch console, you can also pop out the stand built into the back of the screen, and play the Legion Go on a counter or coffee table. Playing it like this, while a little unusual for some, is probably best as the device is quite heavy for long playtimes.
The Lenovo Legion Go offers an all-in-one gaming experience, perfect for those who prefer a handheld device over a console or building a PC.
Its size does come with some trade-offs, including reduced comfort and limited battery life. However, the high-quality display and powerful internals make it a strong contender—especially if you don’t plan to game on the move extensively.
The Lenovo Legion Go retails for R12 999. It scores 3 out of 5.
