Product ratings are helpful, but they can leave shoppers feeling frustrated.
Some reviews create the impression that the merchant or manufacturer is reviewing his own products or asking friends or staff to do so.
Then there are reviewers who are too cautious to score a product 5 out of 5, even when they’re thrilled by it. Because they believe no product can be perfect, they only give it three or four stars out of a possible five.
Another problem is reviews are skewed by the delivery experience. Maybe there was a stock problem, the delivery truck broke down, or the product was damaged in transit. This can result in a negative score because the consumer is rating his experience with the retailer or courier and not the product.
