Volkswagen South Africa has expanded its T-Cross range with two new entry-level models, bringing the starting price of its popular compact SUV down to R400 700.
The move comes as the T-Cross maintains its position as Volkswagen’s best-selling SUV locally, with over 36 000 units sold since its 2019 launch. The new base models include a manual transmission version with a 70 kW engine and an 85 kW variant with an automatic gearbox.
The manual T-Cross Base, priced at R400 700, includes features like an 8-inch digital dashboard, air conditioning, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. It reaches 100 km/h in 11,5 seconds and claims a fuel consumption of 5,9 ℓ/100km.
For R418 200, the more powerful DSG (automatic) version adds LED lighting, front parking sensors, and advanced driver monitoring. Its 85 kW engine, paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission, improves acceleration to 100 km/h to 10,2 seconds while reducing fuel consumption to 5,6 ℓ/100km.
Both models carry Volkswagen’s standard warranty package: three years or 120 000 km on the vehicle, with services required every 15 000 km. The package includes a three-year service plan covering the first 45 000km.
The introduction of these more affordable T-Cross SUVs could help Volkswagen maintain its strong position in South Africa’s competitive compact SUV segment, where price sensitivity has increased due to rising living costs.
