BMW Motorrad has unveiled the highly anticipated BMW R 1300 GS Adventure, a motorcycle that promises to set new standards in the world of adventure and touring bikes.
Like the BMW R 1300 GS over the R 1250 GS, the new R 1300 GS Adventure represents a comprehensive redesign. It features an all-new engine, chassis, bodywork, and storage concept.
According to Christof Lischka, Head of BMW Motorrad Development, the new model combines seating comfort, ergonomics, and weather protection with precise handling, exceptional suspension comfort, and smooth running, aiming to become the benchmark for large adventure motorcycles.
Powerful engine
At the heart of the new R 1300 GS Adventure is a completely redesigned twin-cylinder boxer engine, more compact than its predecessor. It produces 107 kW at 7 750 rpm and a muscular 149 Nm of torque at 6 500 rpm, making it the most powerful BMW boxer engine ever produced in series.
The new engine design, featuring a transmission located under the engine and a novel camshaft drive arrangement, ensures optimal performance and fuel efficiency, BMW claims.
Advanced suspension and handling
The new model boasts a sheet metal shell main frame made of steel, offering higher levels of stiffness and optimized installation space. The aluminium lattice tube rear frame and the updated EVO Telelever and EVO Paralever wheel guides enhance steering precision and riding stability.
Additionally, the new electronic Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) provides dynamic adaptation of damping and spring rates, ensuring superior ride safety and comfort on various terrains.

Pricing and availability
The new BMW R 1300 GS Adventure is expected to be available in South Africa from the first quarter of 2025. The current model, the R 1250 GS Adventure, starts at R371 900. Also on BMW Motorrad South Africa’s website, the R 1300 GS is priced “from” R 355 410.
To provide some context, the Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally (Red) sells for R479 000, the KTM 1290 Super Adventure is R390 000, the Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer is priced from R370 000 and the Honda CRF 1100 Adventure Sport DCT is R336 700.
