Hyundai has revealed an upgraded version of its popular Grand i10 hatchback, showcasing a refreshed exterior design and interior improvements. Alongside this revamp, Hyundai has also introduced a new addition to the lineup – the Grand i10 Sedan.
The third-generation Grand i10 hatchback boasts refreshed styling, offering a choice between two petrol engines: a 3-cylinder 1-litre engine and a 1,2-litre 4-cylinder power plant. The sedan variants exclusively feature the 1,2-litre engine. Both engines are paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
As before, the 1-litre engine – used in both the Motion and Fluid hatchback derivatives – delivers 48,5 kW peak power at 5 500 r/min. and 94 Nm maximum torque at 3 500 r/min. The 1,2-litre mill – which drives both Motion and Fluid versions as well as the sedan – reaches its power peak of 61 kW at 6 000 r/min. and maximum torque of 114 Nm at 4 000 r/min.
Fuel consumption
According to Hyundai South Africa, fuel consumption for the Grand i10 hatchback with the 1-litre engine and 5-speed manual transmission was measured at 5,5 litres per 100 km, while the same engine coupled with the 4-speed automatic gearbox delivered 5,9 litres per 100 km in a test cycle that combined city and open road driving.
The 1,2-litre Grand i10 Fluid with the manual 5-speed transmission recorded fuel consumption of 5,9 litres per 100 km, and 6,9 litres per 100 km using the 4-speed automatic gearbox. The Grand i10 sedan recorded an average fuel consumption of 5,5 litres/100 km for the manuel version, and 5,7 litres/100 km for the automatic, Hyundai says.
Stanley Anderson, Director of Sales, Operations, and Commercial Vehicles at Hyundai Automotive South Africa, praised the Grand i10’s reliability and enhanced design, stating, “Hyundai’s top-seller in South Africa has already established itself as a solid and reliable hatchback model with an impressive list of features and outstanding fuel economy.”
Fresh design
The exterior makeover includes a larger honeycomb grille, creating a more substantial presence. Boomerang-shaped daytime running lights add to the refreshed front-end look. The rear design has also been refined, featuring cleaner lines and harmonious rear lights.
Inside, the Grand i10 hatchback and sedan share similar designs, featuring black cloth seats with red accents. An 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard for all model variants. A rear-view camera is standard across the range.
Electric window-openers and outer rear-view mirror adjuster are also standard fare on all derivatives, as well as three cell phone charging options in the middle console: a modern USB-C, conventional 12V and a USB port. The outer mirrors on the Fluid versions can fold in electrically.
The Fluid derivatives come with a multi-function steering wheel with cruise control buttons as well as remote control buttons for the infotainment sound system and telephone, while the Motion version’s steering wheel is only equipped with the controls for the telephone and sound system.
Safety features include airbags, ISOFIX child seat attachments, and ABS with EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution). The hatchback offers 360 litres of luggage space (910 litres with the rear seatback flipped forward), while the sedan’s boot has a capacity of 402 litres.
