OPPO has officially launched its latest smartphone, the A5 Pro, in South Africa, marking a significant addition to the company’s popular A series.
The new device, priced at R8 000, is now available through major network providers Vodacom, MTN and Cell C, positioning itself as a mid-range smartphone that doesn’t compromise on toughness.
Ready for South African conditions
The OPPO A5 Pro stands out in the market with its industry-leading IP69 waterproof rating, allowing it to withstand everything from accidental spills to heavy rainfall. This makes it particularly suitable for South Africa’s diverse climate conditions, from Cape Town’s winter downpours to the Highveld’s summer thunderstorms.
True grit resistance
Beyond water resistance, the device has been engineered to handle dust and grit, making it ideal for users in challenging work environments such as mining, farming, and logistics.
The phone has earned Military-Grade certification after passing fourteen environmental tests, featuring a sealed frame, reinforced screen, and shock-absorbing internal components.

For professionals working in demanding environments, the A5 Pro includes an Outdoor Mode. This feature boosts CPU performance and network priority for essential applications whilst extending screen-on time and improving functionality when wearing thick gloves.

At the heart of the device is a substantial 5 800 mAh battery, designed to provide all-day usage for calls, content consumption, and multitasking. When charging is needed, the phone’s 45W SUPERVOOC fast charging technology can restore the battery to 30% capacity in under 20 minutes.

The device runs on OPPO’s optimised ColorOS 15 Lite operating system, powered by the company’s Trinity Engine, which extends battery lifespan beyond four years of reliable use. Despite its rugged construction, the A5 Pro maintains a sleek profile, measuring just 7,76 mm thin and weighing under 200g. The device is available in two colour options: Mocha Brown and Olive Green, each featuring distinctive textures and finishes.
